Senior recognition ceremonies are defined as a time when an athletic department, program or team recognizes and thanks seniors who have participated in an interscholastic program. Please follow these guidelines to ensure consistency among programs and to respect our opponents, spectators and officials.
1. The date for the senior recognition will be selected by the head coach. Senior ceremonies may or may not be held on dates of night contests.
2. If the ceremony takes place prior to the contest it must happen BEFORE warm-ups. The ceremony may also be held after a contest, if you so choose. Either way we must ensure that we allow for a proper warm up and making sure that the official start time for the contest is met.
3. Athletes are typically announced with their parents/guardians and are escorted in front of spectators to be recognized. Individual pictures, as well as a group photo, are permitted during the ceremony. One designated person will read a brief script, which is prepared ahead of time, and is subject to review by the athletic director upon request. The script should include: players name, parents/guardians names, number of years played in the program and where they will be attending and/or playing in college.
4. Individual student-athletes should not be speaking at this ceremony. The purpose is to thank our senior student-athletes for their contributions to a particular program. Should you choose to have student-athletes speak, that should be done at your banquet or end of year programs.
5. Any gift giving (flowers etc.), or additional photo opportunities, should be planned for in the timing of the ceremony. Booster club funding to cover some expenses is permissible.
6. Please be aware of any extra duties to make this day special. Make sure that PA system, music and any helpers are coordinated ahead of time. Decorations are fine, but cost should be considered. Please minimize costs to families. Please be sure to share this information to any volunteers you may have working on these ceremonies.
